About Time!

When we lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, one of our favorite birds was the Dark-eyed Junco. We used to see them everywhere and at all times of year. Sometimes we'd only see a couple but other times we'd see a flock of up to a hundred feeding on the ground.

When we came to Texas, we assumed the Junco would be one old friend that we'd continue to see, since the Gulf Coast is within its winter range. Well, we've been here six years, have done hundreds of hours of birding, and haven't seen a single Junco. Sorry, make that "hadn't seen". This morning I finally saw one, at CyFair College! It was even obliging enough to pose for a photo.

The Junco brings my 2008 count for Texas to 200 species, by far my highest year count for the state.

Ooooohh! I am just green with envy. I so want to see a junco here this winter. Maybe I need to make a jaunt down to CyFair campus.
