Hawk Migration

.
Spring is migration time - and not just for shorebirds and songbirds. Many hawks, too, are either leaving our area for the north or passing through on their way north. In the past couple of weeks I've seen several Swainson's, Broad-winged and Sharp-shinned.

It won't be long until the only hawks we'll see here will be our permanent residents: Northern Harriers, Cooper's Hawks, Red-tailed Hawks and Red-shouldered Hawks.

Talking of hawks, I spotted this Red-tailed perched on utility wires as I drove to work earlier this week.
