Last Week

A few more observations from last week.

The campus was comparatively quiet for birds, mainly because there was a lot of construction going on. However, Cedar Waxwings and American Robins weren't deterred by all the commotion.




One Cedar Waxwing perched perfectly for a photo - until the moment I pressed the shutter!


The rose bush at Kleb Woods was as busy as ever with small birds, included a Harris's Sparrow.


A drive along Longenbaugh Road turned up the usual Loggerhead Shrikes and Savannah Sparrows ...


but also some Vesper Sparrows ...



and this Harlan's Red-tailed Hawk.


A Saturday morning stroll in the Little Cypress Spring Preserve was brightened up by the presence of a pair of Red-shouldered Hawks.



Meanwhile the Downy Woodpeckers that recently returned to our front yard have become regular visitors again.

P.S.
Dee and I spent 3 hours at El Franco Lee Park yesterday morning and had some great sightings, including a life bird and two out-of-range species. I'll try to post a report tomorrow.
