After having had a difficult time finding birds in Utah, it was rather a relief to get back to Houston, where birds are so much easier to see and watch.
In my first week back home I didn't have any time for birding trips. However, a doctor's appointment at 290 and Hufmeister led to some casual sightings, because an artificial lake behind the medical center attracts an array of birds. Great and Snowy Egrets were busy fishing while Black-bellied Whistling Ducks preened nearby.
Mallards were preening, too.
Male Great-tailed Grackles were strutting their stuff.
Meanwhile, young Grackles were noisily begging from their mothers.
A young Red-winged Blackbird seemed to be all on its own.
The final bird I saw was a Eurasian Collared Dove, which surveyed the scene from the safety of a lamppost.
