(Almost) Wordless Wednesday
.
I never think of Brown-headed Nuthatches as being particularly sociable birds. So I was surprised when two cuddled up together on a branch of our mulberry tree. I was even more surprised when a third joined them.
Wonderful pictures! I've never seen this particular behavior in these little birds, but I have noticed that they almost always seem to appear in groups of two, three, four, much like the chickadees in my yard. So they do seem to thrive on company.
We've had 4 or more these past couple of months but this was the first time I'd seen them perch together. Two of the ones in the photos were chirping rather plaintively, though they looked like adults.
