At this time of the year, many of our resident birds are molting. As a result, some of them are certainly not looking their best. The Blue Jay below is a case in point.

However, it won't be long until his new feathers have grown in and then his plumage will be back to its normal splendor.

Poor guy! I hope he doesn't know how naked he looks; blue jays have quite the ego, you know.
He gives new meaning to the phrase "naked as a jay bird." Really, I have seen some of the scruffiest-looking birds I have ever seen during this molting season.
