Oops!

Drove to work early today only to arrive and find the college closed. I forgot - We don't work on Fridays in the summer!

I drove home via Kleb Woods in hopes of seeing my first Yellow-billed Cuckoo of the year.

The woods were busy with common birds: Blue Jays, N. Cardinals, Carolina Chickadees, American Crows and Tufted Titmouse, and the wetland area had a Great Blue Heron. The flowers at the nature center attracted a Ruby-throated Hummingbird, while the trees near Elmer Kleb's house had a very agitated Red-eyed Vireo (species #248 for 2009).

A short walk behind the house quickly turned up a pair of Yellow-billed Cuckoos. They were pretty high up in the trees but I got one recognizable shot before they disappeared.

So my year list now stands at 249, which is 4 more than my 2008 total. Not bad, considering that it's only July.

So there actually are Yellow-billed Cuckoos in the area and you got a picture of one. Excellent!

It's usually very easy to see Cuckoos at Kleb Woods. If they're not in the trees around Elmer Kleb's house, you can almost always find them along the first 50 yards of the path beyond the house.
